What’s in the name? South Africa possesses some of the most amazing natural environments, incredible scenery and fascinating biodiversity, together with a unique archaeological and geological history. The indigenous San-Khoi peoples of South Africa have an incredible knowledge of and understanding about South Africa's Fauna and Flora, and it is this that provided the inspiration for Gantouw Tours and Excursions.

Indeed, the San-Khoi peoples shared a wonderful connection with nature in all of its many ways. Gantouw, the Khoi-Khoi word meaning "the way, or the path" of the Eland, was the name given to a historical mountain crossing over the majestic Hottentots Holland Mountain range in the Western Cape. The Eland was also a very sacred and special animal to them. It is these two unique aspects that inspired both the name and path forward for the business.

Gantouw Tours & Excursions is not about "just another walk or a hike", but offers hands-on, interactive, educational nature guiding, hikes and walks that enlighten the mind while having fun. Hikes (half or full day), as well as overnight treks, are offered for all seasons in the Western Cape. All mountain trips are interpretive and tailored to suit your fitness level and time available.
